The Disciple
Shrujana is a senior at Parsippany High School in Parsippany, NJ. Bharatanatyam has been a part of her life since the age of 4. She has been blessed to learn this ancient South Indian classical art form under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Sudhamayee Dhamodharan, founder of SriArts, beginning at the age of 7. This continued learning experience has instilled in her a deep appreciation for devotion, culture, and tradition, enabling her to connect to her roots in India. The Arangetram process has given her valuable lessons in perseverance, time management, and hard work, which she will carry throughout her life. Dance brings her great confidence and immense happiness.
Shrujana has performed at various events for temples, non-profit organizations, and fundraisers, as well as at several local libraries and public school events in Parsippany and Montville, NJ, and acrossTri-State area. She secured 4th place in an international online dance competition called COVID Made Cultural Stars, conducted by the Spring Nectar Foundation in May 2020.

Her many years of training in Carnatic Music have complemented her attention to detail, rhythmic sense, and quick learning in dance. She has been learning Carnatic music from Guru Smt. Jayashree Chandrasekaran since the age of 4 and has performed at various events in temples and non-profit organizations in and around the Tri-State area, as well as at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana. Currently, she is learning Carnatic Music under the guidance of Guru Smt. Vasanthi Ramesh.
Shrujana is a straightforward, enthusiastic, friendly, and fun-loving person. She aspires to pursue a career in STEM, with a specific interest in engineering. She loves playing tennis and is a member of the varsity tennis team at her high school. She served as Treasurer of her school student council and is an active member of the Robotics team. She has been a Girl Scout since the age of 5 and has always believed in women’s empowerment and equality. She has earned several badges, her Bronze Award, and her prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award for leading a community-wide road safety education initiative inspired by her volunteer work at a local hospital.
Shrujana finds joy in being involved in philanthropic efforts and strives to help her community through her membership in SEWA, a non-profit organization focused on global community service. She has participated in various community service and fundraising events.
Shrujana engages in research and works on publishing a paper by collaborating with a Harvard Ph.D. mentor to explore global challenges, with a particular focus on ethnic and socioeconomic impacts. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, listening to music, and socializing in her free time.
